2nd Annual Knitting Weekend
at the Slater Mill Community Guild Studio

The 2nd Annual Knitting Weekend begins on Friday at 6 PM with a wine & cheese reception and discussion. Workshops will be offered on Saturday, January 23rd and Sunday, January 24th.
This event is an opportunity for the knitting community to come together to get involved in the development of the Community Guild Studios, a fine craft and fiber arts center for the people of Rhode Island and Southeastern New England – something which does not exist despite our state’s long and rich history of textile design and manufacturing. Housed in the new Jencks Education Center on the second floor of Slater Mill, this major initiative is unique in the country in that it links a national historic landmark and the birthplace of textile manufacturing with Rhode Island’s growing community of talented, professional craftspeople and the public.

Slater Mill established the Community Guild Studios (CGS) – a fiber arts center for the people of Rhode Island and Southeastern New England – to fill a void in the local community despite the state’s long and rich history of textile design and manufacturing. This major initiative is unique in the country in that it links the birthplace of textile manufacturing with our growing community of talented, professional craftspeople as well as members of the general public who enjoy fiber arts as a pastime or creative outlet. Classes, workshops and educational events can be held here, and the space can also be used to host your own event.
